I took a chance and bought this online without the benefit of a scent test, primarily because of the beautiful red bottle. I’m glad I took the risk. I have a lot of Jo Malone fragrances and this one is a bit different. It does have a light powdery scent to it, slightly reminiscent of Kenzo’s “Flower” fragrance which I used to wear. I enjoy it and so does my husband. this surprised me.
The nose behind this fragrance is Mathilde Bijaoui.Inspired by the iconic Poppy & Barley scent, the Scarlet Poppy cologne intense from Jo Malone London is filled with a bouquet of poppies.Top note is Ambrette (Musk Mallow); middle notes are Poppy, Fig and Orris; base notes are Heliotrope.
The fragrance is built with notes of barley and Tonka bean and arrives in a bright bottle in homage to the scarlet poppy itself. It is softly sweet, easy to wear. Think stems from English golden fields and the wild steppes of Asia – home to the great scarlet poppy that blooms to eight-inch petal cups sitting atop metre-high stems (AKA symbols of love with their crimson-red petals).
Scarlet Poppy has 10-12 hour longevity and average sillage.
My only complaint, which is minor, is that this is one of JM’s “intense” fragrances, but it doesn’t seem to last as long as the other scents in the intense line do, maybe It work through the spring and summer..
One of the best of Jo malone!! Sweet, creamy, powdery!!! I really like this one…..
“The accord I started with was velvety and powerful, so it was all about building on that. Like with a painting, you start with a central idea and you expand around it.” Says perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui. “The scarlet poppy accord is very voluptuous and floral, with blooms that bring a rich intensity at the heart of the scent. This is complemented by orris, for that very soft velour touch and an accord of heliotrope for a deep, powdery feeling, with a top note of ambrette so that the fragrance is rich right from the beginning.”
SCARLET POPPY COLOGNE INTENSE is available as a 50ml and 100ml Cologne Intense through the official website of Jo Malone London.
